Free Meals, Food Donations Offered For GA Students During Summer

Multiple organizations throughout Georgia are working this summer to feed children during school closures.

The conclusion of the academic year marks the end of Georgia students eating breakfast and lunch at school, which means they will be eating more at home.

Some programs will be working through the summer to provide free meals for students.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta is a partner of the Happy Helpings program, offering meals for eligible children.

The agency did not say when the meals will begin being distributed.

  • CNG at Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy Club, 1626 Westhaven Drive SW, Atlanta

The Purpose Built Boys and Girls Club at Price Middle School, located at 1670 Benjamin Weldon Bickers Drive SE in Atlanta, will offer snacks only, according to the organization.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army in metro Atlanta collected food donations for its summer pantries to feed children. The agency gathered non-perishable items.

Nearby locations that assist with hunger can be found via the Salvation Army. The organization did not say when the pantries will open.

MUST Ministries

The MUST Ministries summer lunch program runs from June through July annually.

Volunteers can create Kids' Kits, drive or ride to deliver lunches or pack and check the lunches.

  • Bethany UMC, 760 Hurt Road SW, Smyrna; opens at 11 a.m. Wednesdays
  • Cumberland, 3059 S. Cobb Drive SE, Smyrna; opens at 11 a.m. Wednesdays
  • McEachern United Methodist Church, 4075 Macland Road, Powder Springs; opens at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays
  • St. Luke UMC, 5115 Brookwood Drive SW, Mableton; opens at 11 a.m. Thursdays
  • Mt Pisgah Baptist Church, 851 South Gordon Road SW, Austell; opens at 11 a.m. Thursdays

Cobb County Public Libraries

Three Cobb County libraries are partnering with the state's Helping Hands program to feed children this summer.

Distribution of the free meals will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis on June 1 and will end on July 24.

Meals will not be served on Juneteenth, June 19, or July 3 when Cobb will observe Independence Day.

The sites are:

South Cobb Regional Library, 805 Clay Road, Mableton

  • Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
  • Breakfast: 10-10:30 a.m.; lunch: 11:30 a.m. to noon

North Cobb Regional Library, 3535 Old 41 Highway, Kennesaw

  • Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays
  • Breakfast: 10-10:30 a.m.; lunch: noon to 12:30 p.m.

Gritters Library, 880 Shaw Park Road, Marietta

  • Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
  • Breakfast: 10-10:45 a.m.; lunch: noon to 1 p.m.
