"Although this is not the outcome we all prayed for, unfortunately, it has now become our reality," the family told WAGA-TV. "Thank you to everyone who has prayed on our behalf, and we ask that you continue to keep us covered in your prayers as we navigate this difficult time. It's hard, y'all, we just ask for some privacy to grieve now, please."
During the search for Samuel, authorities previously scoured Aqua Waters Quarry in Lithonia, but he was not found.
East Point Police Chief Shawn Buchanan asked for patience while authorities investigate.
"The investigation remains ongoing, and investigators are working closely with the appropriate agencies to determine the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the discovery," police said.
A cause and manner of death were not released, and it is unknown if foul play is suspected.
