📰 News we're reading

1. Braves Fall To Dodgers As 2026 Postseason Run Comes To An End (patch.com) — Atlanta baseball fans watched the Braves' 2026 postseason end at Truist Park with a 4-1 loss to the Dodgers, who clinched the NLDS 3-1. Despite strong pitching from Tyler Mahle and two hits from Michael Harris II, Atlanta's offense faltered again, finishing just 1-for-23 with runners in scoring position and missing another trip to the NLCS.

2. New affordable housing honors Atlanta music professor (wabe.org) — A major new phase of the Bowen Homes redevelopment in northwest Atlanta is underway, with 112 mixed-income units named Ariel Place at Bowen to honor music professor Ariel Serena Hedges Bowen. Backed by federal, city, and private investment, the broader project will eventually deliver about 2,000 homes—40% affordable—plus a new elementary school, reshaping housing and opportunities for Atlanta families over the next several years.

3. Atlanta student finds threat recorded as her voicemail greeting after attack (attackofthefanboy.com) — A Georgia State University student says she was attacked and robbed on a Midtown Atlanta street, and later discovered a threatening ransom-style message set as her stolen phone's voicemail greeting. Police arrested a 30-year-old suspect after a separate incident involving a stolen patrol car, and he now faces multiple felony charges while remaining in custody. The student's phone and ID are still missing, and her family has launched a fundraiser to help her recover.

4. VA rolls out CLEAR login option and in-person identity verification pilot (govexec.com) — Veterans who use the Atlanta VA medical facilities can now verify their identities through CLEAR, either online with facial recognition or in person at new biometric kiosks. The pilot program aims to make it easier to access VA.gov services and benefits, alongside existing options like Login.gov and ID.me, by letting veterans set up secure accounts during regular clinic visits.

5. Atlanta Community Food Bank CEO takes new job after more than a decade (wabe.org) — Atlanta Community Food Bank CEO Kyle Waide is stepping down after more than a decade to become president of Downtown Atlanta Inc. in December, where he'll focus on issues in the city's core. Longtime executive Jon West will serve as interim CEO while the food bank's board conducts a national search, a transition that could shape both hunger relief efforts and downtown's future direction.
