Pedestrian Fatally Hit By Jeep In Atlanta; Driver Charged

A driver is facing DUI charges after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in Atlanta.

ATLANTA, GA — A 50-year-old woman who was crossing the street died after being hit by a vehicle Sunday in Atlanta, police said.

The woman was crossing Courtland Avenue Northeast near a crosswalk when she was hit by a Jeep Wrangler around 2:45 a.m. near Auburn Avenue, Atlanta Police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Officers have not released her identity.

The driver of the Jeep, who police identified as 28-year-old Marie Bahindwa, remained at the scene.

Bahindwa faces charges of homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, driving under the influence less safe, reckless driving and open container violation in connection with the fatal crash, police said.
