1. DDDA lowers downtown millage rate (daltoncitizen.com) — Downtown Dalton property owners will see a 10.1% cut in their 2026 downtown millage rate, dropping from 0.99 to 0.89 mills on November tax bills. The Downtown Dalton Development Authority says the reduction reflects strong growth while still funding revitalization, business support, and community activities in the city's core district.
   

2. By the Numbers: Dalton Public Schools millage hearing is today (daltoncitizen.com) — Dalton residents can weigh in tonight on a proposed Dalton Public Schools property-tax millage rate of 8.05 mills, slightly higher than last year and above the rollback rate, during a 6:30 p.m. hearing at City Park Auditorium. The board may adopt the final 2026 rate afterward, affecting how much local homeowners contribute to the school system's upcoming budget.
   

3. Ringgold man sentenced to 30 years for trafficking methamphetamine (wdef.com) — A joint operation involving the Dalton Police Department, Whitfield County Sheriff's Office, and GBI led to the arrest of a Ringgold man caught with about 3.4 pounds of meth. He has now been sentenced to 30 years, with 15 in prison and strict probation terms, underscoring ongoing regional efforts against large-scale drug trafficking.
   

4. Funeral services held for Evelyn Hall Vance (themountaineagle.com) — Family and friends with ties to Dalton are mourning Evelyn Faye Hall Vance, whose surviving sons, siblings, and extended family include several Dalton residents. Funeral services were held August 31 in Georgia, and the family invites messages of comfort to be shared online as they remember her life and legacy.
