Testimony begins in quadruple-murder trial (daltoncitizen.com) — Testimony is underway in the felony-murder trial over the August 2024 shootings that killed four people at Pleasant Grove Park in Dalton, with prosecutors arguing the deaths occurred during an armed robbery. A key co-defendant has already pleaded guilty and testified, and the Dalton Daily Citizen is providing continuing coverage of this closely watched Whitfield County case.

Applications Open For 2026 Citizens Government Academy In Dalton (chattanoogan.com) — Dalton residents can now apply for the 2026 Citizens Government Academy, a free October program that meets Thursday evenings and concludes at the Nov. 2 Mayor and Council meeting. By adding short walks, simple strength training, or group activities, residents can lower stress, improve sleep, and reduce risks for depression and chronic disease without spending hours in the gym.
   

4. Converse Mourns the Loss of Former Board of Trustees Member Bee Smith Maybank '66 (converse.edu) — Longtime Dalton resident and community volunteer Beatrice "Bee" Smith Maybank, a former Converse University trustee and local business owner, passed away in town on September 1. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Dalton this Sunday, with friends encouraged to attend or donate in her memory to the church or her endowed scholarship.
