• UPDATE: DeKalb County crews finish broken water main repairs near school (decaturish.com) — A broken water main near Columbia Elementary School in Decatur temporarily cut water service Tuesday, forcing students to relocate to Snapfinger Elementary and Columbia High before returning for normal dismissal. DeKalb County crews have finished repairs and restored pressure, though some nearby homes and businesses may briefly see brown water and are advised to run faucets to clear their plumbing.
   

• Decatur Book Festival brings author sessions, street fair to downtown Decatur (atlantanewsfirst.com) — Downtown Decatur will host the free Decatur Book Festival on Friday and Saturday, October 2–3, bringing two days of author talks, kids' activities, and a bustling street market to the square. Residents can hear a keynote from Pulitzer winner Brian Goldstone at First Baptist Church of Decatur and browse more than 100 exhibitors. Organizers promise something for every reader, from children's books to culinary and poetry sessions.
   

• These Georgia schools ace U.S. News college rankings (ajc.com) — Students in Decatur can take pride that Agnes Scott College, located right in town, tied for 62nd among national liberal arts colleges and was named the most innovative in its category for the ninth straight year. The rankings piece also spotlights top Georgia institutions like Emory, Georgia Tech, Spelman, and others, offering context for families comparing higher-education options across the state.
