1. 44th Annual 11Alive CAN-A-THON (salvationarmyusa.org) — Decatur residents can support neighbors facing food insecurity by dropping off nonperishable food at the Salvation Army Peachcrest location on Sherrydale Lane during the 44th Annual 11Alive Can-A-Thon on December 4. Donations collected there and at other metro sites will help restock 13 Salvation Army food pantries for the holidays and beyond, with options to volunteer, give online, or use an Amazon wishlist.
   

2. Education, collaboration combats recycling skepticism in DeKalb (thechampionnewspaper.com) — Decatur residents can expand their recycling options by using CHaRM DeKalb, which accepts hard-to-recycle items and hosts free educational tours and school field trips. DeKalb County and partners, including the City of Decatur, are ramping up education, standardizing messages, and running creative programs to cut contamination and make recycling easier and more transparent for local families.
   

3. DeKalb finds more mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus (decaturish.com) — DeKalb Public Health, based in Decatur, reports more mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus in traps serving North Decatur and Brookhaven, though no human cases have been confirmed this year. Officials say ten traps countywide have tested positive so far and urge residents to stay informed about symptoms and prevention through the county's environmental health office and website.
   

4. Atlanta's wealthiest ZIP codes are probably where you think (fox5atlanta.com) — Residents in Decatur's 30030 ZIP code are officially among metro Atlanta's wealthiest, ranking fifth in a new analysis of per-capita income across North Georgia. The study, based on 2019–2024 Census data, shows Decatur listed alongside several affluent Buckhead and Midtown neighborhoods, highlighting how strongly the city stands out economically within the region.
   

5. Marcus Autism Center believes $40 million in grants could 'change course' of children's lives (atlantanewsfirst.com) — Families in Decatur should know that the Marcus Autism Center, part of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, has secured nearly $40 million in major research grants. Leaders say the funding will support large-scale studies of genetics, brain development, and clinical trials aimed at preventing or dramatically reducing the impact of profound autism for thousands of children over the next five years.
