• NGCF tops $1M in scholarships for 1st time (wgtjradio.com) — A Gainesville-based foundation just crossed a major milestone, with the North Georgia Community Foundation awarding over $1 million in scholarships this year, including $120,000 for Hall County students. The record-setting 2026 cycle supports 367 recipients at 67 colleges, backed by nearly 100 donor funds and more than 100 local volunteer reviewers.
   

• Three alleged shoplifters caught with items valued at nearly $5,000 (wgtjradio.com) — Gainesville police detectives are handling several recent theft cases, including alleged shoplifting at Home Depot on Dawsonville Highway, Target on Shallowford, and Walmart on Shallowford totaling nearly $5,000 in merchandise. Another man faces burglary and theft-by-receiving charges after deputies say he broke into two commercial buildings, with all suspects currently facing various bonds and additional charges.
