• Garden City readies massive new recreation complex to open in fall (savannahnow.com) — Garden City is preparing to open an $18 million, 32,000‑square‑foot recreation complex in Rossignol Hill this September, replacing the aging gym residents have relied on since the 1960s. The new center will offer pools, fields, courts, fitness facilities, meeting rooms, and expanded youth sports programs, with officials emphasizing that local residents—not tourists—will remain the top priority.
   

• Garden City police investigate shooting at Love's Travel Stop; woman critically injured (wjcl.com) — Garden City police are investigating a Thursday morning shooting at Love’s Travel Stop on Sonny Perdue Drive that left a woman with life‑threatening injuries. A person of interest is in custody, and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact Garden City Police or CrimeStoppers.
   

• Chatham County Gang Prevention and Intervention Commission to host empowerment summit for teen girls (wtoc.com) — Teen girls in Garden City and Chatham County can attend a free “I Am Enough” empowerment summit this Saturday, June 13, at The Empowerment Center on Augusta Road. The day‑long event aims to build confidence and life skills for girls ages 12‑18, and organizers are urging families, schools, and churches to help spread the word.
