Atlanta Freedom Bands’ Concert
Band will mark our nation’s 250th&nbsp;anniversary with a concert titled&nbsp;“Americans We: Celebrating Our Shared
Story in Music”.&nbsp;&nbsp;Taking place
on&nbsp;Saturday, June
20, at the Ray Charles Performing Arts
Center at Morehouse College, this Semiquincentennial musical offering features
a diverse array of composers representing a wide array of American voices in
music.
This will NOT be your typical
patriotic concert.&nbsp; We have something unique to offer our community.&nbsp;
Our concert celebrates the diversity, the varied voices, and shared stories
that make up our country.&nbsp; The music will challenge, inform, entertain,
and delight.
The program’s centerpiece is the
premiere of a work AFB has commissioned for the occasion,&nbsp;“We the People” by Christopher Kyle
Green. 
The program features legendary
composers such as&nbsp;Florence
Price&nbsp;and&nbsp;Aaron Copland&nbsp;paired with today’s counterparts such as&nbsp;Erica Svanoe, Quincy Hilliard, Omar
Thomas, and Chandler Wilson.&nbsp; The
selections tell the stories of women who dared to expand beyond their
traditional roles, the achievements of the African American community,&nbsp;Marsha P. Johnson&nbsp;(an important early activist in the transgender
community), and more.
Led by&nbsp;Artistic Director O’Shae Best&nbsp;in his first season with the ensemble, AFB’s
Concert Band will bring these stories spanning the breadth of our nation to
life.

Higher Calling Christian Academy

Higher Calling Christian Academy (HCCA) is a faith-based learning community located in South DeKalb County dedicated to helping children grow academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively in a safe and nurturing environment. Our Summer Camp 2026 theme, “Choose Your Adventure: A Summer of Discovery at HCCA,” gives families the flexibility to enroll their child for the entire summer or select individual weeks based on their child’s interests. Throughout the summer, campers ages 5–12 will experience engaging, hands-on learning through themed weeks focused on gardening and sustainability, STEAM exploration, sports and teamwork, entrepreneurship, leadership, and creative discovery. Campers will participate in exciting activities including outdoor exploration, science experiments, engineering challenges, team games, creative arts, field trips, and youth business projects. A strong focus of our summer program is literacy and enrichment. Campers will participate in daily reading and enrichment activities designed to strengthen comprehension, creativity, communication, and critical thinking skills. As part of our literacy initiative, campers will visit the local public library twice each week to participate in summer reading opportunities, explore new books, and develop a love for reading and learning. What makes HCCA unique is our commitment to combining fun, enrichment, and purpose in a supportive Christian-centered environment. We strive to support the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of every child while encouraging creativity, confidence, leadership, and exploration. Families appreciate our flexible enrollment options, affordable pricing, extended hours from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., three meals provided daily, and CAPS acceptance. Our goal is to create a summer experience where children are not only cared for, but inspired to learn, grow, build friendships, and create lasting memories.
