Mableton names public safety director as thousands sign petition to dissolve city (wsbradio.com) — Mableton leaders have hired Dr. Kerry Stallings as the city’s first public safety director, a key step toward launching a local police department next summer. At the same time, a Change.org petition asking state lawmakers to explore dissolving the city has drawn about 2,100 signatures, reflecting resident concerns over taxes, services, and the city’s long‑term direction.
   

2. Residents push back on proposed Mableton housing development over traffic and flooding (kiss104fm.com) — A proposed single‑family subdivision along Old Alabama Road in Mableton is facing pushback from residents worried about traffic, school congestion near Pebblebrook High, and flooding risks. City officials say the project could expand affordable housing, particularly for civil servants, with a final rezoning vote set for the next council meeting on Thursday, Sept. 3.
   

3. Man gets knife off grocery store shelf, unwraps it, goes after family of 7 (wsbtv.com) — A family shopping at Mableton Supermarket on Mableton Parkway was threatened when a man allegedly took a knife off the shelf, unwrapped it, and confronted them, according to Cobb County police. No motive has been released, but the suspect faces aggravated assault and child cruelty charges. The store manager said he was relieved the incident didn’t occur on a busier night.
   

4. Cobb Chamber, SelectCobb announce 2026 Employer Excellence Certification recipients (cobbcountycourier.com) — Mableton residents can take pride that the City of Mableton earned a Silver-level Employer Excellence Certification from the Cobb Chamber and SelectCobb for its workplace practices. The program honors organizations that prioritize employee well-being, engagement, and culture, with this year’s awards presented at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Applications for the 2027 certifications will open next spring.

Things to do this weekend in Cobb County: Friday August 28 to Sunday, August 30 (cobbcountycourier.com) — If you’re staying close to home this weekend, Mableton offers free outdoor movies at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre, the Taste of Mableton festival, and the Epic Farmer’s Market.
