Mark your calendar for September and October celebrations, including 912 Community Day at Ice Cove, new local companies like Teddy's Property Care and 76 FENCE, and expansions such as Morgan Rae Boutique and Madison Oaks Apartments.
   

2. Community Corner: Metropolitan Savannah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Announces 2026 Hispanic Heritage Month and Fall Signature Events (wsav.com) — Savannah residents can look forward to a full slate of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations kicking off with a breakfast at the Hyatt Regency Historic Savannah on September 12. The Metropolitan Savannah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is also hosting a free festival at Eastern Wharf, Fiesta Latina in Port Wentworth, and a 10th annual awards gala downtown, all spotlighting local Hispanic culture and businesses.

New testing finds elevated mold spores in Jenkins High School in Savannah (wjcl.com) — Parents and staff at Jenkins High in Savannah should know that new testing found elevated mold spores in one classroom and high surface levels in the boys' locker room, following weeks of AC problems and health complaints. Most air samples were acceptable, but the district has relocated students from the affected classroom and plans remediation in the room and locker areas while continuing to monitor conditions.
   

4. Georgia ports fuel $181 billion in state economic impact (savannahnow.com) — Savannah's port operations are driving a huge share of Georgia's economy, with a new University of Georgia study estimating $181 billion in annual sales and more than 600,000 jobs supported statewide. With a $5 billion expansion plan adding berths in Savannah and Brunswick, local residents can expect the ports' role in jobs and business growth around Savannah to keep increasing.
   

5. Patriot Day 5K draws over 1,000 in Savannah, marks 25 years since Sept. 11 attacks (wtoc.com) — More than 1,000 people filled Savannah's Forsyth Park for the Patriot Day 5K, honoring victims and first responders 25 years after the Sept. 11 attacks. Military members, civilians, and city partners ran a course through historic squares, watched an aerial display, and closed with a Third Infantry Division Band concert, each participant receiving a special 25th-anniversary medal.
