Man Fatally Shoots Wife, Injures Son At Cobb Home, Police Say

A man is facing murder charges after police say he fatally shot his wife and injured his son at a Cobb County home.

SMYRNA, GA — A man is facing murder charges after police say a shooting killed his wife and injured his son Tuesday night in the 1700 block of Laurel Creek Trail.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m., Cobb County Police said Wednesday. Police identified the accused gunman as 56-year-old Smyrna resident Kirk Wrzesien.

When officers arrived, police said they found Kirk Wrzesien's 23-year-old son suffering from a gunshot wound at a nearby home. The son was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Shital Wrzesien, Kirk Wrzesien's 57-year-old wife, was shot inside the home, police said. She did not survive, police said.

Kirk Wrzesien was arrested on charges of murder, two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, police said.

He was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond, police said.

A motive was not revealed in the shooting.
