Nā Leo TV launches islandwide community listening tour (bigislandnow.com) — Nā Leo TV is kicking off an islandwide community listening tour with a free session at its Hilo studio on Friday, June 19, featuring a facilitated conversation, live music, and refreshments. Hilo residents are invited to share what local stories, training, and emergency information they need from their community TV station, with feedback helping shape a year-end media needs assessment for Hawaiʻi Island.

UH Hilo tapped to help boost U.S. seafood supply (westhawaiitoday.com subscription) — UH Hilo scientists based at the Pacific Aquaculture and Coastal Resources Center in Keaukaha are taking a lead role in a new $13.5 million national aquaculture institute to boost America’s seafood supply. Their work will blend cutting-edge technology with Native Hawaiian stewardship traditions, supporting research, student training and partnerships across the Pacific while positioning Hawaiʻi Island as a key testbed for sustainable fish farming.

5. Two students awarded Press Club scholarships (hawaiitribune-herald.com subscription) — Two Hawaiʻi Island students with strong Hilo ties have been awarded Big Island Press Club scholarships announced at a May 28 reception at the Hilo Yacht Club. Hilo High alumna and UH Hilo student Rianne Empaynado and Waiākea High alumna Mari Iwata received support to continue their communications and screenwriting studies, part of an ongoing effort to nurture local storytellers with island roots.
