1. Another high rise could be coming to Oʻahu's skyline (hawaiipublicradio.org) — A major redevelopment at Ala Moana Shopping Center is moving through the Honolulu City Council, proposing a 38‑story hotel and more than 200 residential units. Residents are split between concerns over affordability, congestion, and park access, and support for thousands of promised construction jobs and long‑term economic benefits. The project's conceptual plan has cleared committee and now heads to the full council.
   

2. Police seek suspect who brandished pistol at Ala Moana Beach Park (staradvertiser.com) — Honolulu police are asking for the public's help identifying a man who allegedly threatened people with a pistol near the Ala Moana Beach Park restrooms on September 14 before fleeing through the park. Officers released video and a detailed description of the suspect, who is wanted on suspicion of terroristic threatening. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers by phone or online.
   

3. Former Moanalua High School Wrestling Coach Sean Sakaida Arrested for Child Pornography (news-usa.today) — A former girls' wrestling coach at Moanalua High School in Honolulu has been arrested on federal child pornography charges and is being held at the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu. Investigators believe there may be additional victims connected to his long coaching career and are urging anyone with information or concerns to contact the FBI through a confidential online form.
   

4. After Storms Blow, Humans Help Manu-o-Kū Return To The Trees (civilbeat.org) — Honolulu residents and wildlife groups are rallying to protect manu‑o‑Kū, the city's official bird, after recent storms and Hurricane Lala knocked chicks from trees around town. Volunteers, arborists, and the Hawaiʻi Wildlife Center work together from the Honolulu Zoo to UH Mānoa and private yards, rescuing fallen chicks, marking nesting trees with blue ribbons, and rehabilitating injured birds so they can return safely to the urban canopy.
   

5. Power remains on for Hawaii Island, Maui and Oahu: HECO (khon2.com) — With Hurricane Nolo nearing, Hawaiian Electric reports that power is still on for Oahu, including Honolulu, and says crews are ready to respond if outages occur. Residents are urged to charge essential devices, stock emergency supplies, and use island-specific trouble lines and online outage maps to stay updated and report problems as the storm approaches.
