• Fatal motorcycle crash in Makawao claims life of 48-year-old (khon2.com) — A 48-year-old Haʻikū man died late Wednesday after crashing his motorcycle on Piʻiholo Road in Makawao, where he failed to make a curve and hit an embankment. Police say he was not wearing a helmet, and investigators are still determining whether speed, alcohol, or drugs played a role in Maui County’s fifth traffic fatality of 2026. 
• Results: 32nd annual Pōhai Nā Keiki Nalu ‘Gathering of the Surf Kids' at Launiupoko (mauinow.com) — A young surfer from Makawao earned his first shortboard win at the 32nd annual Pōhai Nā Keiki Nalu contest at Launiupoko Park, which drew more than 250 kids. The free event featured multiple age divisions, produced several double winners, and raised over $5,000 to support a local 6-year-old battling leukemia, showcasing Maui’s tight-knit surf community.
