• A dog, a mission, and 16,000 books (cdapress.com) — A Hayden Canyon Charter third grade teacher says Stewy the therapy dog’s stories are getting local kids genuinely excited about reading, especially when they recognize familiar places and experiences. A new Stewy statue at Coeur d’Alene’s McEuen Park celebrates the beloved book series, which has fueled a nonprofit that’s given away about 16,000 free children’s books across area schools and families. 
• Notes from the Field: Tetanus in Four Children — Idaho, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin, 2024 (cdc.gov) — Hayden residents should know that Panhandle Health District, based right in town, contributed to a new CDC report on four serious pediatric tetanus cases, including Idaho’s first in more than 30 years. The findings stress how crucial it is for families to keep children’s tetanus vaccinations up to date and seek prompt care, including recommended shots, after dirty or puncture wounds.
