Storm Chances Return Mid-Week For Chicago Area

The start of the work week will start out dry and sunny, with storm chances returning mid-week, the National Weather Service shared.

Monday will have a high of 76 degrees, and Tuesday will have a high of 77. There is also a high swim risk at southern Lake Michigan beaches through Monday evening, the weather service said.

Strong onshore winds will bring a heightened risk for rip currents, as well as dangerous waves 4 to 6 feet tall, according to the weather service.

Temperatures will warm slightly starting Wednesday, and there are periodic thunderstorm chances for Wednesday through Saturday, according to the weather service. There is a limited thunderstorm risk each day.

Wednesday has a high of 80, and Thursday and Friday have a high of 79 degrees, according to the current forecast. Right now, there is a chance of storms both during the day and evening on Wednesday, during the day Thursday, and on Friday evening.

TUESDAY: Increasing clouds, with a high near 75. East northeast wind around 5 mph.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. East wind around 5 mph becoming south southeast after midnight.

WEDNESDAY: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1am, then a slight chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 60. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

THURSDAY: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 78.
