Wrong Fuel Causes $320K Damage to Village Trucks In Lake In The Hills
A fuel vendor accidentally supplied unleaded gas to diesel trucks, forcing costly repairs for about two dozen vehicles.
LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Lake in the Hills officials say a fuel vendor mistakenly delivered the wrong fuel into a public works diesel tank last November, leading to more than $320,600 in repair costs to about two dozen trucks, according to Shaw Local.
The incorrect unleaded gas was pumped into vehicles ahead of a winter storm, and drivers began reporting loss of power and dashboard error codes when the trucks were used, Shaw Local reports.
Public works crews identified the problem quickly and began draining and replacing contaminated fuel, preventing what officials described as a potentially “catastrophic” failure of snow‑removal equipment.
