• Aurora man sentenced to 33 years in prison for fatal 2023 shooting (chicagotribune.com) — An Aurora man has been sentenced to 33 years in prison for a 2023 shooting on North Glen Circle that killed 19-year-old Aurora resident Edwin Varela. Prosecutors say the gunfire erupted during an alleged illegal cannabis sale, with bullets striking Varela as his car later crashed into parked vehicles. The shooter, a minor at the time, must serve most of his term.
   

• Oswego man charged with aggravated battery after incident in Aurora, police say (chicagotribune.com) — An Aurora resident was allegedly threatened and punched while sitting in his car on South River Street, leading police to quickly arrest an 18-year-old Oswego man nearby. Prosecutors say he also became confrontational with an officer and had been arrested days earlier in Aurora on a vehicle burglary charge. He remains jailed in Kane County, with a court date set for Oct. 14.
