"Last night, we made history," she said in a news release. "I ran because I believe our community deserves strong leadership that centers on our shared values: access to mental health support, support for the aging population, community safety, and responsible budgeting. For far too long, our neighbors have been demanding better from their elected officials."
She added, "I am honored that they have placed in me the great responsibility to provide that leadership, and to be the first Black woman ever elected to the DuPage County Board."
She is set to be sworn in next month. She told Patch that she plans to step down from the Gower board.
