• SIU Foundation Women's Leadership Council awards grants to women-led initiatives (wsiltv.com) — New micro-grants from the SIU Foundation Women’s Leadership Council are backing three women-led initiatives on the Carbondale campus, supporting student travel, AI literacy, and global women’s wellbeing resources. The funding aims to boost student leadership, learning, and engagement for Salukis, especially women and international students, through targeted projects launching at Southern Illinois University. 
• Murphysboro running back Kegan Shields transfers to Carbondale (wjpf.com) — A standout Murphysboro running back, Kegan Shields, has transferred to Carbondale Community High School, where he’ll join an already explosive Terriers offense this fall. After impressing at a University of Illinois camp, he’s on college recruiters’ radar and will open the season facing his former Murphysboro teammates on August 21.
• Verda Jones (riverbender.com) — Carbondale readers should know that Verda Ann Jones, nee Claussen, passed away here on June 4 at age 91, with her brother by her side. Though rooted in Bethalto and long active in her church and local library, she spent her final days in Carbondale before services scheduled June 15 at First Baptist Church of Bethalto.
