Sept. 26, 2026 Jeff Chiba Stearns - 36th Annual Mortenson Distinguished Lecture (ala.org) — A free Mortenson Distinguished Lecture and Youth Literature Festival keynote is coming to the I Hotel in Champaign on Saturday, Sept. 26, featuring filmmaker and author Jeff Chiba Stearns. He'll share 25 years of work exploring mixed-race identity and Japanese Canadian history through animation, documentaries, and books, followed by a book signing. Registration is required but free for local attendees.
   

2. Man arrested after Sunday evening stabbing in Champaign (wcia.com) — Champaign Police say a 33-year-old man was hospitalized and later released after a Sunday evening stabbing on Center Drive, and a 42-year-old suspect is now in custody. Prosecutors have charged him with aggravated battery, armed robbery, and weapons offenses, and a detention hearing is set for Sept. 23. Residents may notice the ongoing court process as officials decide whether he remains jailed.
