JB Pritzker officially declaring Aug. 27 and 28 as "BTS Days." The shows are expected to draw thousands of visitors, boost local businesses, and turn Willis Tower purple as the full group returns to Chicago for the first time since 2019.

Federal disaster loan centers to open for second time in 2 months following late July storms (suntimes.com) — Chicago residents hit by the July 27 storms can soon get in-person help applying for low-interest federal disaster loans at the Pullman branch of Chicago Public Library, open through Sept. 3. Homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofits may qualify for significant repair or replacement funds, with separate deadlines for physical damage and economic injury applications.

3. Pritzker signs disaster proclamation to aid Illinois communities in storm cleanup efforts (wmbdradio.com) — Chicago residents now have expanded avenues for flood relief as Gov. JB Pritzker's new disaster proclamation unlocks up to $250,000 per community for storm cleanup and infrastructure repairs, including in Cook County. The move follows his visit to nearby Lansing and a new law aimed at helping Chicago homeowners recover from last summer's severe Southwest Side flooding.

Woman killed, man seriously injured in Little Village stabbing (nbcchicago.com) — A woman was fatally stabbed and a man seriously injured in a Little Village apartment late Tuesday, according to Chicago police. Officers responding to a stabbing call on South Christiana Avenue found both victims, and investigators say the man allegedly attacked the woman before stabbing himself. Area 4 detectives are continuing the investigation.

The Great Lake Jumper and Lake Michigan Mermaids (wgntv.com) — If you're out early at Montrose Beach, you might spot Dan O'Conor, the "Great Lake Jumper" who has plunged into Lake Michigan for more than 2,200 straight days. His ritual along the Chicago lakefront has inspired a group of locals called the Lake Michigan Mermaids, who now gather for cold-water dips and community every morning.
