1. Record 9K Athletes Compete In Chicago Triathlon Weekend (patch.com) — Chicago's lakefront was packed as more than 9,000 athletes from all 50 states and 32 countries raced through downtown and along the shoreline in the Supertri Chicago weekend, setting a new participation record. With Illinois residents making up most of the field, the event also raised over $122,000 for Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and has already opened registration for its 2027 edition.
   

2. A 15-minute express train to O'Hare? One group is making the pitch, but the proposal faces hurdles (kansascity.com) — A private group is pitching a $2.25 billion O'Hare Flyer express train that would link downtown Chicago to O'Hare in about 15 minutes, running frequently from early morning to late evening. Backers say it would be privately funded and faster than the CTA Blue Line, but it still needs railroad agreements, federal approvals, City Council sign-off, and substantial private investment.
   

3. Popular Chicago bakery targeted twice in weeks (fox32chicago.com) — A beloved Brown Sugar Bakery location on Chicago's South Side is pressing on after a second break‑in in less than a month, when four masked men smashed a window and stole the cash register. Owner Stephanie Hart says she's staying on 75th Street and is urging Chicagoans to support the bakery by placing orders as they repair the damage.
   

4. Cook County Sheriff's Organized Crime Division, US Homeland Security Arrest 3 with Machine Gun Switches, Drugs, Cash (arlingtoncardinal.com) — Law enforcement recovered guns, alleged machine-gun conversion switches, drugs, and cash during a raid on a home in Chicago's Ashburn neighborhood, leading to felony charges for three men. Two Chicago residents and one man from East Chicago, Indiana face various drug and firearm counts, with one defendant ordered held in Cook County Jail while the others were released pending further proceedings.
   

5. Iron Age Korean steakhouse in Wicker Park closed after failed health inspection (cbsnews.com) — A popular Korean steakhouse in Chicago's Wicker Park is temporarily closed after city health inspectors reported extensive rat droppings, sanitation issues, and uncorrected past violations. The shutdown comes amid a wave of recent license suspensions at other Chicago restaurants, underscoring stepped-up health enforcement that diners across the city should be aware of.
