3 Injured, 1 Airlifted After Semi, Jeep Crash Near Woodstock

WOODSTOCK, IL — Three people were injured, including one who suffered life-threatening injuries, in a crash involving a Jeep and a semi-truck Monday afternoon near Woodstock, authorities said.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and McHenry County Sheriff's Office responded about 2:55 p.m. Monday to the intersection of U.S. Route 14 and Hartland Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a reported crash with injuries, according to a news release.

Responding crews found the two vehicles with moderate to heavy damage. Everyone involved had gotten out of the vehicles before first responders arrived, officials said.

Paramedics determined that three occupants of the Jeep were injured, including two who were initially listed in critical condition. Two medical helicopters were requested, but one was canceled because of its extended response time.

Two patients were taken by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, including one in serious condition and one with minor injuries. A third patient was flown by medical helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital–Riverside in Rockford with life-threatening injuries, according to the news release. The semi-truck driver declined medical treatment.

The intersection remained closed for several hours while emergency crews treated the injured, established a helicopter landing zone and investigated the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. Information about what led to the collision, including possible contributing factors or citations, was not immediately available.
