Home Explosion Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Injured: Fire Officials
Fire officials say the blast destroyed a home and damaged nearby properties as investigators work to determine the cause.
WONDER LAKE, IL — A home explosion in Wonder Lake left one person dead and two others injured Sunday night, according to fire officials.
Crews from the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District responded at about 7:50 p.m. to the 7400 block of Birch Drive after receiving reports of an explosion and structure fire, according to a Wonder Lake Fire Protection District news release. When firefighters arrived, they found a heavily damaged home and an active fire scene.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Two additional individuals were transported to local hospitals for treatment, including one person who was airlifted due to the severity of their injuries, fire officials said.

Authorities said the explosion also caused damage to at least two neighboring homes.
The cause of the blast remains under investigation by local fire officials, the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office and federal partners including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
