‘Lethal Threat’: Algonquin Teen Accused In 127-MPH Police Chase

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — An 18-year-old Algonquin man was arrested after allegedly fleeing from Lake in the Hills police at speeds reaching 127 mph Friday night.

Court documents show Mason G. Parzygnat was driving a 2019 Audi S3 on Algonquin Road when officers attempted a traffic stop around 11:15 p.m., according to the Lake & McHenry County Scanner. He allegedly drove 127 mph in a 45 mph zone,then reached 96 mph in a 40 mph construction zone on Randall Road while turning off the vehicle’s headlights and taillights.

A judge ordered Parzygnat detained, calling his actions an “imminent, lethal threat” to motorists and pedestrians. Two days later, Parzygnat was offered a plea deal and entereda guilty plea to a misdemeanor fleeing charge before being sentenced to conditional discharge and 82 hours of public service, according to the article.

Police said Parzygnat had been arrested about a month earlier after allegedly driving the same Audi at 106 mph ina 40 mph construction zone at night. He had been released on pretrial conditions that included an order not to commit any new offenses, the Lake & McHenry County Scanner is reporting.
