Seeking grants to make the senior future even brighter (herald-review.com) — Decatur's Park District is building a $10.3 million, state-of-the-art senior activity center, backed by more than $3 million in state grants. The story also looks back at decades of fun at Nelson and Fairview parks, from swimming lessons to the Fun Fair and skating at Fairview Rink.

Raiders lose low-scoring first game of season, 16-7 (whig.com) — Decatur fans saw St. Teresa open the high school football season with a gritty 16-7 home win over Quincy Notre Dame, powered by defense and key interceptions. Decatur BBQ Brawl firing up in Forsyth to benefit youth advocacy center (wandtv.com) — Decatur-area residents can dig into competition barbecue and live music at the inaugural Decatur BBQ Brawl in Forsyth on September 19, raising funds for the Webster-Cantrell Youth Advocacy Center. Teams will compete in ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, while attendees sample entries, vote for winners, and enjoy vendors and beer service at Coziahr Harley-Davidson.
   

4. Report: Housing Affordability Takes Downturn in Q2 Due to Market Headwinds (rismedia.com) — Decatur stands out nationally as the most affordable housing market, with typical families needing only 16% of their income for a mortgage on an existing home. A new NAHB report shows affordability worsening in many cities, but Decatur, along with Peoria and Springfield, remains a bright spot despite higher rates and construction costs.
