79-Year-Old Elmhurst Theft Suspect Caught Before: Records

The man was charged with burglary and retail theft at an Elmhurst store.

ELMHURST, IL – In recent days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving retail theft, an unlicensed solicitor, disorderly conduct, fraud, theft and damage. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Retail theft, burglary

  • Phil N. Mazurek, 79, of Northlake, was arrested about 3 p.m. Wednesday on one count of burglary and two counts of retail theft. Police said the incident occurred at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St. Mazurek was taken to the DuPage County Jail. In 2013, Mazurek, then 66, was accused of retail theft at a Williams Sonoma store in Orland Park. Police said he stole a copper pot valued at $420.

Aggravated driving with a suspended license

  • A 26-year-old Bartlett woman was arrested shortly after midnight June 15 in the 900 block of North York Street on charges of aggravated driving with a suspended license, DUI, obstructing an officer and possession of open alcohol. Police said she refused all tests. She was also wanted on a Kane County warrant. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail. In the same incident, a 31-year-old Poplar Grove woman and a 22-year-old Carpentersville man were cited on charges of possession of open alcohol. They were released.

Soliciting without a permit

  • A 19-year-old Schaumburg man was cited about 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of South Hillside Avenue on a charge of soliciting without a permit.

Disorderly conduct

  • A 65-year-old Chicago man was seen urinating on the sidewalk about 7 a.m. June 15 at York and Vallette streets. He was cited on a charge of disorderly conduct involving befouling property. He was released.

Fraud

  • A resident in the 800 block of South Swain Avenue told police Tuesday that someone on social media is pretending to be her and selling concert tickets. She said several people told her that they sent money to a fraudulent account, but never received any tickets.
  • A resident in the 100 block of Geneva Avenue told police Tuesday that someone pretending to be with Microsoft security gained access to her computer and instructed her to wire money to a bank account. The resident's bank alerted her of the fraud and did not approve the transfer.
  • A resident in the 700 block of South Spring Road told police Thursday that she bought gift cards after being persuaded she won an online sweepstakes. An investigation is pending.

Theft

  • Chicago-based Alex Stoykov Real Estate Group told police that someone stole its black briefcase containing a drone, drone controller and camera. The incident occurred about 2 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of South Kenilworth Avenue.

Damage

  • A car's passenger side mirror was damaged overnight Tuesday at Fairfield Avenue and Utley Road.

Fireworks

  • Fireworks were set off about 10 p.m. Tuesday at the city's parking deck at 175 W. First St.
