📰 News we're reading

1. Elmhurst Groping Suspect Arrested, Accused Of Assaulting Woman Twice (patch.com) — Elmhurst residents are learning more about an arrest after a woman reported being groped twice while running on the Illinois Prairie Path near South York Street. Police say a Villa Park man on an electric scooter is accused of colliding with her, touching her inappropriately, and returning minutes later to grab her again before fleeing. Investigators used photos from the path and a nearby store to identify a suspect, who is now jailed pending trial, as Elmhurst's police chief emphasizes safety on local trails.

2. Elmhurst Park Board Warned Of 'Repercussions' With Bandshell Referendum (patch.com) — Elmhurst neighbors following the Wilder Park bandshell debate saw the park board again reject a citizen petition seeking an advisory referendum on the bandshell's location near Wilder Mansion. Despite nearly 1,200 signatures and one member's push to let DuPage County election officials decide, a 5-2 majority stuck with the district's attorney, who warns park districts lack authority for such referendums. The decision frustrated many residents who argue the mansion site ignores survey results and harms views of a beloved Elmhurst landmark.

3. Elmhurst University Gets $1.5M Gift For Business School, Scholarships (patch.com) — Elmhurst residents may be pleased to hear that Elmhurst University has received an anonymous $1.5 million estate commitment from a trustee to endow a business school professorship and fund a substantial scholarship. The gift will support undergraduate business students and help attract and retain top faculty, expanding academic and research opportunities on the Elmhurst campus for years to come.

4. 14 Dealership Cars Burglarized, All Unlocked: Police (patch.com) — Elmhurst residents are being reminded to lock their vehicles after police arrested two Glen Ellyn men accused of burglarizing 14 unlocked cars at Napleton's Kia of Elmhurst. Recent Elmhurst police reports also detail a local domestic battery arrest, several DUI and public drinking cases, a damaged car at York High School, and a loitering citation in the downtown parking garage.

5. Casten, officials talk about food insecurity (beverlyreview.net) — Two Elmhurst organizations—the Walk-In Assistance Network and Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry—joined Rep. Sean Casten and other groups to discuss rising food insecurity and SNAP changes. Participants described more local families turning to pantries as grocery prices climb, benefits tighten, and housing instability grows, while also exploring legislative ideas to reduce benefit cliffs and allow more practical food purchases.
