Evanston Police Arrest Chicago Man In Starbucks Lewd Exposure Case (patch.com) — Evanston residents are learning more about an arrest tied to a disturbing lewd exposure incident reported this summer at the Central Street Starbucks. Police say a 33-year-old Chicago man was identified by Evanston detectives, charged with felony sexual exploitation of a child and public indecency, and is now in Cook County custody ahead of an October court date in Skokie.
   

2. Northwestern's New Ryan Field Opens Friday (patch.com) — Evanston football fans are set to experience the grand opening of Northwestern's new Ryan Field today, exactly 100 years after the original stadium's first game. The rebuilt venue on the city's northwest side will host Penn State and then four more home games this fall, each paired with The Great Chicago Food Festival for added community appeal.
   

3. Local retailers kick off Space to Place program (evanstonroundtable.com) — Downtown Evanston is activating a vacant Bookman's Alley storefront this weekend with Space to Place, a city-backed pop-up market featuring 13 local, mostly home-based businesses. Residents can shop Wednesday through Sunday through Dec. 31, discovering everything from Oaxacan mole sauces and pun-filled greeting cards to vintage kids' clothing, while helping incubate neighborhood entrepreneurs toward future brick-and-mortar shops.
   

4. Sheinelle Jones receives Distinguished Alumnae Award (dailynorthwestern.com) — Northwestern alum and "TODAY" co-anchor Sheinelle Jones is being honored on campus with the 2026 Distinguished Alumnae Award, celebrating a career that began during her undergraduate years in Evanston. Residents can attend the reception this afternoon in Scott Hall's Guild Lounge, recognizing her national broadcasting work and recent bestselling book.
   

5. 'Tables have turned' in Broadview Six case (evanstonnow.com) — A federal judge is pressing prosecutors for more evidence in the collapsed Broadview Six immigration protest case, which involved a candidate running to represent Evanston in Congress. With Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss among those criticizing U.S. Attorney Andrew Boutros, the judge is weighing whether to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate possible misconduct by federal officials.
