ICE Agents Beat Up American Citizen During Violent Case of Mistaken Identity in Chicago Suburb (sfl.media) — An Evanston resident was injured near Howard and Dodge after federal immigration agents mistook him for a fugitive, took him to the ground, and later released him when they confirmed he was a U.S. citizen. Evanston police documented his head, neck, and dental injuries, opened an investigation, and are reviewing surveillance, cellphone, and body-camera footage as local officials demand answers about the agents' conduct and authority.
   

2. Mural welcomes people back to Main Street (evanstonnow.com) — A new three-story mural titled "Welcome Back to Main Street: a Community Mural for Evanston" now brightens the public lot by 727 Main Street, replacing a crumbling 1993 artwork. Created by muralist Oscar Joyo with tiles painted by local residents and led by Open Studio Project, the piece is meant to welcome visitors to Evanston's Main-Dempster district with a sense of belonging and joy.
   

3. Riders of all ages roam free during Bike the Ridge (evanstonnow.com) — Ridge Avenue in Evanston briefly became a car-free corridor Sunday as hundreds of cyclists joined the 18th annual Bike the Ridge, enjoying a festival-like hub at Ridgeville Park. The Evanston Transit Alliance used the event to highlight progress in the Envision Evanston 2045 plan and continue pushing for safer bike routes so local kids and families can ride more comfortably year-round.
   

4. ETHS community gathered for its first 5K (dailynorthwestern.com) — Evanston Township High School launched homecoming weekend with its first-ever Homecoming Hustle 5K, drawing students, parents, alumni and neighbors to a Sunday morning loop starting at Lazier Field. Runners and walkers used the event to strengthen Evanston's Wildkit community, reconnect with old friends and support the city's running scene, with many hoping it becomes a regular local tradition.
   

5. How an Evanston audience's reaction to 'Sunset Boulevard' changed movie history (evanstonroundtable.com) — A January 1950 test screening at Evanston's old Varsity Theater so derailed the original, morgue-set opening of "Sunset Boulevard" that director Billy Wilder scrapped and reshot it, changing film history. Local moviegoers' laughter at talking corpses convinced Wilder to create the now-classic pool opening, helping secure the film's critical and commercial success and cementing Evanston's quiet role in Hollywood lore.
