With cash reserves potentially dropping to just 77 days, the school board will hold a public hearing on September 28 before adopting a final budget by September 30, decisions that could shape services for Evanston students.

Evanston Community Fridges prepares to open its first downtown fridge, at Woman's Club of Evanston (evanstonroundtable.com subscription) — A new free community fridge and pantry is coming to downtown Evanston on Sept. 22 at the Woman's Club of Evanston, 1702 Chicago Ave., expanding local access to no-questions-asked food support. Evanston Community Fridges already runs four sites across the city and hopes the central location will attract restaurant partners and better serve residents who rely on public transit.

Evanston man charged with multiple felonies, accused of selling drugs near Albany Care (evanstonroundtable.com) — Evanston police say a 63-year-old Evanston man has been arrested on multiple felony drug and weapons charges tied to alleged crack cocaine sales near Albany Care on Maple Avenue. Following an August tip, officers executed search warrants at his southeast Evanston home and vehicle, recovering firearms, ammunition, drugs and cash; he's being held in Cook County Jail pending a Skokie detention hearing.
