• Alleman won't field a varsity football team in 2026 — Galesburg searching for Week 4 replacement (wgil.com) — Galesburg High School’s 2026 football schedule just opened up in Week 4 after Alleman decided it can’t field a varsity team this fall. Athletic Director Nick Young is searching IHSA listings and even border-state schools for a replacement, though Galesburg would get a forfeit win if no opponent is found, a situation also affecting the rest of the Western Big 6.
   

• LA Homicide Suspect Arrested in Galesburg Traffic Stop; Stolen Gun Recovered (977wmoi.com) — A recent Galesburg Police traffic stop on I-74 led to the arrest of a driver wanted for homicide in Los Angeles County and the recovery of a loaded stolen handgun. Officers also arrested a passenger on weapons charges, with one man still held in Knox County Jail and the other released after a detention hearing.
   

• Illinois State Police seek public's help in 2018 death of Tyler Smith, found in Galesburg creek (wgil.com) — State investigators are again asking Galesburg-area residents for information about the 2018 death of Tyler Smith, whose body was found in Cedar Fork Creek and whose cause of death remains undetermined. Illinois State Police say key events likely unfolded near North West Street and the creek late that night and urge anyone with direct knowledge to contact investigators or submit an online tip.
