• Granite City man charged with battering Madison County deputy (thetelegraph.com) — A 64-year-old Granite City resident has been charged with aggravated battery after allegedly grabbing a Madison County sheriff’s deputy by the shirt collar, and has been released from custody pending court proceedings. The same court filings detail separate recent felony cases involving men from Alton, Godfrey, and Cottage Hills, all of whom were also ordered released while charges move forward.

• Lynn Hester (riverbender.com) — Granite City readers are remembering Lynn R. Hester, a longtime Granite City Steel employee and former member of Grace Baptist Church in town, who has passed away at age 90. His family highlights his deep Christian faith, volunteer work, love of golf, and the kindness that earned him the nickname “Mayor” in his later years.
