📰 News we're reading

• Lake County ZBA recommends data center moratorium in unanimous vote (chronicleillinois.com) — A proposed T5 data center on Grayslake's west side has sparked such intense opposition that Lake County's Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously backed an eight‑month moratorium on new data centers in unincorporated areas. Residents packed a recent hearing to raise environmental, safety, and transparency concerns, while Grayslake officials confirmed initial permits are issued and a lawsuit seeks to halt the project.

• Felon accused of asking people for money outside Hainesville store, flashing gun at delivery driver after not handing over cash (lakemchenryscanner.com) — Grayslake police were called to a Hainesville liquor store in July after a man allegedly panhandling outside lifted his shirt to show a loaded "ghost gun" to a delivery driver. Officers later arrested a Round Lake man, a convicted felon already on pre‑trial release for a prior gun case, and a judge has now ordered him detained in Lake County Jail.

• Andrew Daman shoots even par, leads Prairie Ridge boys golf to FVC win: Wednesday's Northwest Herald roundup (shawlocal.com) — Grayslake Central's girls tennis team edged Johnsburg 4–3 in a nonconference road match, highlighted in a broader Northwest Herald roundup of area prep sports. The Rams' win is listed alongside golf, volleyball, soccer, and flag football results from schools across McHenry and Lake counties, giving local fans a quick snapshot of early‑season performances.
