HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale officials had feared that crews building a Burlington Park pavilion might discover something while digging, increasing costs.

It happened.

On Tuesday, Village President Greg Hart reported to the Village Board that the contractor found an underground culvert during the initial excavation.

He said the village's staff was working with engineers, architects, and the contractor to find the best workaround so the work can proceed.

Trustee Luke Stifflear questioned one option.

"I know one of the options listed is potentially moving the pavilion to the west. I still have questions about the permissibility of that," he said.

In August, the Village Board approved a $441,000 contract with La Grange-based Dave Knecht Homes for the pavilion.

Since the beginning, the village has said private donors would cover all the costs. The design will resemble the nearby Memorial Building.
