The Power of Women in Pullman

The Power of Women in Pullman

Event Details

Dolphin Lake The Clubhouse, 2700 183rd St, Homewood, IL, 60430

Most histories of Pullman focus on the men behind the "model town" experiment.  But what changes when we focus on the experiences of women?  Dr. Lauren Finnigan of Indiana University (South Bend) will explore how women's labor - both the "necessary" and the "ornamental" - shaped life at Pullman and created real forms of power within a highly controlled system.  Rather than simply existing in an oppressive and paternalistic environment, we'll learn how women navigated, influenced, and often reshaped that world in unexpected ways.
