Homewood Gas Station Robbed At Gunpoint, Suspect Nabbed Minutes Later: Homewood PD

The incident happened Saturday night, Homewood police said.

HOMEWOOD, IL — A man was arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a Homewood gas station Saturday night — after police found him still at the scene.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, at approximately 11:27 p.m., Homewood Police officers responded to the Mobil Gas Station located at 17500 Dixie Highway following a report of an armed individual.

Police learned that Devon Smallwood, 35, of Freeport, had entered the gas station, displayed a semi-automatic handgun, and told the clerk he wanted $300 in cash.

Responding officers quickly found Smallwood still on scene. A loaded Glock handgun was recovered from the pocket of his sweatshirt. Further investigation revealed that Smallwood is a previously convicted felon.

Smallwood was charged with armed robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Both are felony counts approved by the Cook County State’s Attorney Office.

Smallwood remained in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for Nov. 3, police said Monday.
