2 Shot Outside Riverwalk Homes On Joliet's Broadway Street: Boy, 16, Captured By Fugitive Task Force

JOLIET, IL — Very few shootings in Joliet go unsolved these days and on Thursday afternoon, the Joliet Police Department revealed that a 16-year-old youth has just been captured by a fugitive task force for the mid-June non-fatal shootings of a woman and a man at the Riverwalk Homes public housing complex off North Broadway Street.

"Following an extensive investigation into the June
shooting of two individuals at the Riverwalk Homes Apartments, Joliet Police detectives identified a 16-year-old male juvenile as a suspect in the incident," police spokesman Dwayne English revealed on Thursday.

He said that back on June 18, the detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the juvenile on the following charges: two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated discharge of a gun, possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card and unlawful possession of firearms.

This week, on Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force located and took the 16-year-old suspect into custody at the Riverwalk Homes Apartments. The juvenile was transported to the Joliet Police Department for processing and was transported to the River Valley Justice Center.

Two months ago, Joliet police announced that at 4:03 p.m. on June 15, officers responded to Riverwalk Homes Apartments for shots fired. A 27-year-old female and a 27-year-old male were suffering from gunshot wounds.

The female sustained a gunshot wound to the groin, while the male sustained a gunshot wound to the right arm. Both individuals were transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department. Their injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

"During the investigation, detectives identified a male suspect and learned that an armed security guard working at the apartment complex discharged their firearm after observing the suspect armed with a handgun immediately following the shooting. Officers and detectives conducted a canvass of the area and recovered spent shell casings at the scene. No additional victims were located, and no other injuries were reported," Joliet police noted back on June 15.
