Joliet Woman, 38, With Knife Detained Under SAFE-T-Act Dangerousness Standard: Records

JOLIET, IL — A 38-year-old Joliet woman who lived in one of the apartment houses near the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery must remain in the Will County Jail indefinitely under the SAFE-T-Act's dangerousness standard, Will County Judge Donald DeWilkins has ruled.

The Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow has charged Brittney Muhealddin with two counts of domestic battery, theft and aggravated assault in connection with last Friday morning's arrest by the Joliet police force.

According to the petition to deny pretrial release, at 6:44 a.m., Joliet police were dispatched to the 0 to 50 block of Garfield Street for a domestic disturbance. The victim in the case, a man, told Joliet police "he stayed overnight and noticed Brittany had used CASHAPP to send herself $100 from his account. He did not give her permission to use his phone or to send the money," prosecutors noted.

The victim even showed Joliet police the transaction on his CASHAPP from Aug. 27. In any event, the man told the police that he asked for the money back and "Brittany became angry and pushed him. She was on top of him and scratched him using her nails," prosecutors informed Judge DeWilkins.

The officers saw scratch marks to the right side of his neck and lacerations on his right forearm. The man also told Joliet officers how "Brittany then grabbed a knife and stated she would stab him," court files reflect.

At the scene, Joliet police indicated that they saw a small knife with a black handle in the defendant's kitchen.

Eventually, Joliet police interviewed the defendant and she stated the victim "had sent her $50 for a reunion and he came to ask for it back. Brittany said she would send him the money later. She admitted to pushing (him) but denied any physical harm or using a knife. Brittany further denied calling 911 and stating that she was going to stab the male if he did not leave," prosecutors indicated.

Prosecutors pointed out how Muhealddin was already on pretrial release from the Will County judges for another 2026 criminal case, one charging her with assaulting a different man.

"This matter is set for jury trial on October 26, 2026, in courtroom 301. The Defendant poses a threat to the victim and the community in general," prosecutors stressed.

Muhealddin also has prior battery convictions from 2010 in Cook County and 2005 back here in Will County, the prosecutors indicated in their SAFE-T-Act petition.

Now that Judge DeWilkins has imposed the SAFE-T-Act's dangerousness standard, Muhealddin must remain in the Will County Jail indefinitely as her criminal charges are pending at the courthouse.
