Mosi Leo Ambonisye, 59, of Chicago, IL, passed away on May 8, 2026, in Broadview, IL. He was born in Chicago, IL on January 1, 1967, to the late Eddie and Juanita Nichols. Mosi was a graduate of Corliss High School.

Love, determination, resilience, creativity and much more legendary traits filled the aura of Mosi. Legendary is the man who taught himself to play the guitar so well and attract the invites to go on tour and compose for the most popular brands. He recorded several albums, leaving behind a musical legacy that reflects his passion, discipline, and gift for expression. Even with this dedication, his dedication poured into his family and kids.
His sense of humor shined within his family and even the most minute, unseen things will live on through his kids, his family, and his peers. He enjoyed cycling, going to the gym, and being the grill sergeant.

Mosi honorably served his country in the United States Army, where he earned the Army Service Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Marksman Marksmanship Badge Rifle, M-16. His service reflected his dedication, discipline, and quiet strength, qualities that continued to guide him throughout his life.
For the last 30 years, Mosi was a devoted employee of the United States Postal Service in Forest Park, Illinois. His long tenure is a testament to his unwavering work ethic, reliability, and commitment to serving his community.
Mosi is survived by his children, Russell Davis, Eddie Ambonisye, Marquis Nichols, Shaka (Brittany) Ambonisye, Shango Ambonisye, and Tafari Ambonisye; grandchildren, Madison Ambonisye, Zahari Joy Ambonisye, Kehlani Ambonisye, and Aniyah Ambonisye; siblings, Sirena (Ladell) Nichols-Bryant, Reggie (Audrey) Nichols, and Regina (James); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded by his parents.
Visitation for Mosi Leo Ambonisye will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors held under the auspices of the United States Army and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad.
