Doomed To Failure, Route 59's Proposed Gas Station, Car Wash Yanked Off Joliet City Council Agenda (patch.com) — Neighbors in Joliet's Hampton Glen subdivision helped derail a proposed 24-hour gas station, car wash and future restaurant at Route 59 and Theodore Street, across from Walmart and near CarMax. After council members signaled opposition to adding another car wash and round-the-clock business to the already busy corridor, the developer's request for a special use permit was pulled from the Joliet City Council agenda.
   

2. Terhan Gordon's Death Was A Homicide, Will County Sheriff's Office Reveals 6 Months After Bones Found (patch.com) — Family and investigators are still seeking answers in the killing of 36-year-old Terhan Gordon, a Joliet man whose remains were found in a Mokena field six months ago and whose death is now ruled a homicide by gunshot. Will County detectives say the case remains active, while Gordon's relatives publicly urge both the Will County Sheriff's Office and Joliet Police to pursue every lead and push for justice.
   

3. Joliet's $12.5 Million Settlement: City Employee Responsible For Pedestrian Death's Later Had DUI Arrest (patch.com) — Joliet residents are learning that the city's wrongful death settlement over a 2024 pedestrian fatality has reached $12.5 million, with taxpayers responsible for a $1 million self-insurance share. City officials explained the layered insurance structure at a council meeting, while confirming the former utilities worker involved in the crash later faced a DUI arrest and was no longer employed by Joliet at his death.
   

4. Lt. Jeremy Harrison Takes Joliet Police And Fire Board To Will County Court With Emergency Lawsuit Filing (patch.com) — A Joliet police lieutenant is asking a Will County judge to pause his disciplinary case, arguing the city's police and fire board is relying on a flawed, partially unintelligible transcript from a May hearing. His attorneys say Joliet officials delayed sending audio for transcription, refuse to share the original recordings, and still set a deadline this month for final arguments that could determine his future with the department.
   

5. Joliet Central High School Teacher Lauren Kline Receives Fulbright Teacher Award For 2026-2027 (patch.com) — A Joliet Central High School teacher has earned a prestigious Fulbright Teacher Exchange award for the 2026-27 academic year, bringing national recognition to Joliet Township High School. Lauren Kline will join about 2,500 Americans teaching and researching abroad, with plans to return and share new global perspectives, technology insights, and classroom practices with local students and colleagues.
