2 Teens Injured — 1 Critically — In Libertyville E-Bike Crash

Two girls were riding the e-bike when it was struck by an SUV on Milwaukee Avenue Tuesday night, police said.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — Two 15-year-old girls were injured, one critically, after the electric bicycle they were riding was struck by a sport utility vehicle Tuesday night in Libertyville, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 9:08 p.m. near Milwaukee Avenue and Winchester Road. A preliminary investigation found a Chevrolet Blazer traveling north on Milwaukee Avenue entered the intersection on a green light and struck an eastbound e-bike that was crossing Milwaukee Avenue just north of the intersection, according to a Libertyville Police Department press release.

Both girls were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center. One was treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening, while the other was later transferred to Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet Blazer was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Libertyville Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.

Authorities are not releasing the identities of the juveniles.
