6 Injured When Ambulance Transporting Patient Collides With SUV, Car In Libertyville: Police

The collision happened Sunday morning on Highway 45 and Peterson Road.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL -- Six people were taken to the hospital Sunday morning after an ambulance that was enroute to the hospital collided with two other vehicles.

The collision happened at about 11:05 a.m. on Highway 45 and Peterson Road when the Lake Villa Fire Protection District ambulance collided with a Lexus RX350 and Chevrolet Equinox, according to a news release from the Libertyville Police Department.

Authorities say the ambulance was headed south on Highway 45 near Peterson Road with its emergency lights and siren on when it hit a vehicle headed east on Peterson Road.

The ambulance crew of three, as well as a patient the crew was transporting to the hospital, were all taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center following the crash, police said. The drivers of the Lexus RX350 and Chevrolet Equinox were also transported to Condell Hospital.

Police say all six people taken to the hospital sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
