Man Accused Of Breaking Into Neighbor's Home, 'Baptizing' Officer

Prosecutors say the 33-year-old poured water on a responding officer and later assaulted hospital security guards.

GURNEE, IL — A 33-year-old Gurnee man faces multiple charges after authorities say he broke into a neighbor’s home, threatened responding officers and poured water on one officer while saying he was “baptizing” him.

John C. MacNaughton was charged with three counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and criminal trespass to a residence following the Aug. 18 incident in the 4200 block of Waterford Way, the Lake & McHenry County Scanner is reporting. Authorities said MacNaughton later struck his mother and, after being taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center, assaulted two hospital security guards in separate incidents.

During a detention hearing, MacNaughton’s defense attorney said he had been struggling with schizophrenia and had recently received new medication that his family said significantly stabilized his condition, according to the article.
