• Fundraiser Launched For Mom Who Died Saving Son In River (patch.com) — A Libertyville-based fundraiser is supporting the family of Angelina "Angie" Khalimendik, a Hinsdale mother who died after rescuing her son from the Des Plaines River near Independence Grove Forest Preserve. Local officials say she saved her child before drowning, and community members are now being asked to help cover funeral costs and create a trust for her three young children. 
• Illinois recruit Bennett Konkey sparks Geneva past Libertyville (chicagotribune.com) — Libertyville's Wildcats opened their football season on the road Friday, falling 28-14 at Geneva in a nonconference matchup highlighted by Illinois recruit Bennett Konkey's explosive plays. Despite strong efforts from Libertyville standouts like tight end Brock Williams and quarterback Jackson Yarc, Geneva's quick-strike offense proved too much in a rainy second half.
