• Woman Dies After Trying To Help Son In Des Plaines River (patch.com) — Residents near Libertyville are mourning after a woman died Sunday evening in the Des Plaines River at Independence Grove, where she entered the water to help her son. Libertyville Fire Department crews and Lake County Forest Preserves police responded, and the woman was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead as authorities continue investigating. 
• Visitors get taste of Revolutionary War at Grayslake reenactment: 'You can't touch them on a YouTube screen' (chicagotribune.com) — A Revolutionary War reenactment in nearby Grayslake drew crowds with booming cannons, costumed soldiers, and hands-on history lessons, while also highlighting Libertyville's deep Revolutionary-era roots. Organizers noted early Independence Day celebrations in what's now Libertyville, the town's active Daughters of the American Revolution chapter, and local Revolutionary War veterans buried in Lake County. Families said the live experience beat learning from screens.
